One of my favorite stop motion creators is Tim Burton. Some of his works include The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline. Most of his movies are made by using claymation. Claymation is when a object is made of something malleable that's able to move into different positions. For example, in The Nightmare Before Christmas each character is made out of clay. Although, they have a different head and mouth shape every time that a character talks so that it looks like they're actually forming words.
In order to support each character they have steel inside of the clay so that each movement is smooth and the clay doesn't fall apart. They also have to duplicate many of the same characters. For example, in The Nightmare Before Christmas they duplicated each character up to 3 times leaving them with over 200 characters in total. The major issues that come with this type of stop motion animation is that if one thing in a frame is messed up, they have to go back and refilm everything they were trying to accomplish in the first place.

Tim Burton is originally from Burbank, California. When Burton was younger he used to make stop motion animations in his backyard even though they weren't that great. He started his work at Disney and tried to work on things like The Fox and the Hound, but his style clashed with theirs so he went on to make solo movies.
